Contract: Full-Time

Smile Education is working in collaboration with a reputable PRU in Walsall, seeking a resilient and experienced English Teacher to join their dedicated team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable students in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 who require alternative educational provision.

About the School:

The Inclusion Centre is a Key Stage 1, 2, 3 & 4 Pupil Referral Unit serving the entire borough of Walsall. Committed to fostering a caring and nurturing environment, the school caters to students who have faced permanent exclusion from mainstream schools, often presenting with social and emotional difficulties impacting their learning.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop, and deliver outstanding teaching and learning for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Coordinate the planning, delivery, and assessment of English across the school.
  • Contribute to the coordination, development, and delivery of all elements of pastoral care.
  • Track pupil attainment, achievement, and behavioural progression.
  • Contribute to robust assessment and profiling systems.
  • Provide detailed reports and suggested strategies at the end of PRU placements.
  • Contribute to whole school development, planning, implementation, review, and evaluation.
  • Liaise with all stakeholders, including parents, to ensure a collaborative approach.
  • Contribute to behaviour systems and extra-curricular activities.
Qualifications:
  • Experience teacher who holds QTS with a sound knowledge and understanding of teaching English.
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective behaviour management techniques/strategies/interventions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of assessment and profiling.
  • Understanding of inclusive practice to support learning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of factors that may impede learning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality teaching and learning, with strategies to improve and raise achievement.
Experience:
  • Experience of working effectively with disaffected, disengaged, and challenging pupils.
  • Nurturing, pastoral role experience.
  • Providing comprehensive medium-term plans, individualised learning plans, and extensive differentiation of learning.
  • Identifying appropriate success criteria and measuring progression.
  • Effective use of emerging technology to enhance lessons.
  • Innovative and creative practice in planning lessons, schemes of work, and curriculum.
  • Contribution to curriculum planning.
