Our client is an established engineering business based in Earith.

This is an office-based role as an Estimator reporting to the Technical Director.

No qualifications are required, just some technical estimating experience. They are very keen to provide on-the-job training which will progress your career within the business.

This is an office based only position as they work in a collaborative way as face-to-face communication works better for them.

It would be preferable if you come from an Engineering background, enabling you to better understand that environment. This role is about working from drawings and specifications and breaking these down to provide estimates for costing.

Purpose of Job:

The key function of this job is to provide a service to customers - sales and manufacturing and can have a significant impact on the competitiveness and profitability of the company.

  • To produce product estimates for sales quotation and manufacturing.
  • To purchase materials and services as required to-do so.

You will receive training to perform the following:

For each product specification, estimate the costs of materials and labour for each manufacturing operation using the set parameters.

  • Sense check all requests for estimates, completed estimates and information supplied and advise the Technical Director of any issues that will affect the validity of the estimate.
  • Similarly, highlight any estimate that contains information outside the set parameters.
  • Provide feedback on price variances so that the system can be updated and ensure that it is.
  • Where a final product consists of several product specifications (drawings) then create structured estimates.
  • Raise Project/Estimate numbers as required. File and maintain all estimates and other work, and in a system accessible by the Technical Director.
  • Liaise with other colleagues to ensure that they supply information in time to implement the task. Similarly, provide timely and accurate feedback to those reliant upon completing your task.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of 'Estimating systems and practices' and provide feedback to the Technical Director on initiatives that could positively improve output.
  • Work closely alongside the Buyer, ensuring that good communication prevails and that a clear understanding is achieved. Avoid duplication of effort.
  • Contact suppliers as required to do so, ensuring that all contacts and purchases are compatible with the wider requirements of the business.
  • Build and develop good effective working relationships with key suppliers.
  • Provide 'purchasing' back-up in the absence of the Buyer.
  • Ensure that all administration (Internal/External) is completed in full and on time.
  • Maximise efficiency via good time management and minimise costs/wasted effort.
  • Continually improve relevant knowledge, competencies, and skills.

Hours: Monday - Thursday 8am - 5 pm, Friday 8am - 2pm
