Health & Safety and Compliance Manager – Central London/Hybrid – £330 per day (Umbrella)

A London local authority is seeking an experienced Interim Health & Safety and Compliance Manager to oversee and enhance health and safety practices across its corporate estate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Council policies and processes for Safe Systems of Working, Compliance Management, and Health & Safety (H&S) management.
  • Act as the Council’s Responsible Person for compliance, including Water and Asbestos Management.
  • Appoint and coordinate Responsible Persons and Authorising Engineers for various service delivery areas, representing the Director of Social Investment and Property.
  • Lead on delivering a training plan for Safe Systems of Working.
  • Ensure the council’s buildings comply with relevant H&S legislation and best practices.
  • Investigate H&S incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventative measures.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma).
  • Significant experience in a Health & Safety management role.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing H&S policies, databases, and systems.
  • Strong track record of delivering improvements in Health & Safety performance.
  • Experience in conducting H&S investigations and developing preventive strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of H&S legislation, including DDA, COSHH, Data Protection Act, and building regulations.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, building regulations, and British Standards relating to buildings and building services.
