Job Description

As a Rail Materials Manager with the flexibility to be based in Leicester, Derby, or Doncaster, your role is crucial in overseeing the management and procurement processes of all Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) materials within the rail industry. This position entails ensuring that these activities are perfectly aligned with the construction project timelines specific to rail projects. A significant part of your job is to identify rail-related items that have long lead times and to maintain reasonable stock levels of these items, while also considering space and cost constraints.

Your responsibilities include the maintenance of inventory for an extensive range of equipment and tools relevant to the rail sector. This encompasses everything from specialist installation tools and power tools to generators, safety gear like harnesses, live line testers, and comprehensive earthing equipment, all essential for rail construction and maintenance projects. Efficiently managing the procurement process is another key duty. This involves supervising the manufacturing and guaranteeing the timely delivery of OLE materials, vital for the uninterrupted progress of rail construction projects.

In addition, you will oversee teams responsible for the operations at the rail depots located in Leicester, Derby, or Doncaster, including the management of small plant and tools. Recognizing the importance of quality control within the rail supply chain is indispensable in this role. Furthermore, proficiency in the use of procurement software, with a preference for BMD, is highly regarded. This holistic approach to rail materials management is aimed at optimising supply chain efficiency and significantly contributing to the successful execution of rail construction projects.
