Interim Financial Services Manager
Location: Hertfordshire
Rate: £52.36 per hour umbrella


An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Interim Financial Services Manager to a London local authority in Hertfordshire. In this role, you will provide expert technical financial advice and support at all levels across the Council, assisting the Head of Finance and Business Services (HoFBS) in delivering high-quality strategic financial advice and support to Members and senior officers. You will also manage the day-to-day operations of the financial services team.

Main Duties:
  1. Strategic Management: Collaborate closely with the HoFBS to develop financial procedures, strategies, and plans, ensuring the delivery of a balanced budget and effective financial management of the Council's affairs.
  2. Managerial Duties: Direct, lead, and motivate the finance team to deliver proactive and professional services that meet customer needs and support operational service delivery. Responsibilities include staff selection, training, development, performance management, and goal setting.
  3. Financial Services Duties: Provide strategic and operational financial support, advice, and challenge across all service areas. Manage day-to-day management accounts, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting performance against budget.
Experience Required:
  • Qualified Accountant (CCAB Qualified incl. CIMA).
  • Extensive experience in financial and management accounting, preferably in Local Authority Finance, adapting to changing business environments.
  • Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and The Code of Practice on Local Authority Accounting in the UK.
  • Proficiency in financial systems, legislation, strategy, and management within an organisation.
  • Understanding of the financial needs and information requirements of Senior Management and Members.
  • Significant practical management experience.
