Climate Emergency Strategy Manager
Location: North London
Rate: £39.06 per hour umbrella

A North London local authority are recruiting for an Interim Climate Emergency Strategy Manager.

Job Purpose:
  1. Serve as the Council’s strategic and corporate lead for the climate emergency and environmental sustainability in North London, offering expertise on borough-wide climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience. Ensure an integrated approach across Brent’s environmental strategies, including air quality, waste management, biodiversity, green economy, sustainable growth, travel, and water conservation.
  2. Develop the Council’s environmental sustainability and climate emergency approach from foundational principles. Create a borough-wide climate emergency strategy and council-wide action plan, positioning Brent as a pioneering Council in this field.
  3. Implement climate emergency programs, projects, and partnerships across Brent's corporate estate and various sectors including domestic, business, schools, and community. Collaborate on joint initiatives with sub-regional, regional, and national bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead strategic planning and execution of climate emergency initiatives.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive climate emergency strategies and action plans.
  • Foster partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders across sectors.
  • Advise on relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in urban environmental sustainability.
  • Drive innovation and sustainability in all Council operations and initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of climate emergency programs and projects.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders to raise awareness and garner support for climate action.
Requirements:
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of environmental sustainability issues, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, waste management, air quality, green space, biodiversity, energy efficiency, and circular economy.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in urban environmental sustainability.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing climate emergency strategies and action plans.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • A commitment to driving positive environmental change and sustainability.
